Instant Lesson: ELA meets SS in Greek Mythology

I know it’s only the start of the school year but are you already feeling overwhelmed!? Don’t worry. I got you! (At least I got you, social studies and English language arts middle school and upper elementary teachers). Here is an instant and easy lesson that perfectly segues into a unit on Greek mythology or simply supports basic ELA skill mastery.

In this lesson, students will compare and contrast the roles, symbols, and myths of the three major Greek gods: Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. This activity will enhance understanding of their distinct domains and similarities, providing insights into their influence on Greek mythology and culture.

1. Start by having students read this article about Cronos: https://www.timelessmyths.com/gods/greek/cronus/

2. Lead students through the lesson slides.

3. Pass out FREE graphic organizer handout!

4. Have students take notes on the venn diagram graphic organizer as they read the 3 myths (one about Zeus, one about Hades, + Poseidon) individually or in groups.

Boom! Instant lesson :) and the perfect way to bridge ELA with Social Studies.
